Mariano Aguerre scored the second goal of the game and was answered back by Matias Magrini. Work To Ride – Los Machitos continued to put up a strong defense in the third, preventing Phoenix from scoring and Aguerre’s goal ended the half in a 3-3 tie.
Consistently scoring every chukker, Aguerre put another goal on the board, but Toro Ruiz also rose to the challenge in the second half. Mariano Gonzalez was able to convert Lucas Diaz Alberdi’s penalty 3 and Work To Ride – Los Machitos took the lead for the first time 5-4. To make up for the opening he gave the other team, Alberdi came back with a quick goal and Ruiz followed suite. Aguerre wasn’t about to let the lead slip so he scored two back to back goals, retaining a one goal lead headed into the final chukker. The fate of the tournament would come down to these last 7.5 minutes and Ruiz tied it up again with the first goal. Aguerre expertly guided the ball between his opponent’s goal posts with the final shot that would seal the game 8-7 and coveted tournament win on the fields of Greenwich Polo Club.
