The Hong Kong Polo Team (HKPT) succeeded in competing in the South East Asian Games Challenge Trophy (SEA) supported by Option Group, breaking through the preliminary round to the subsidiary final.
Marking the Hong Kong Polo Team’s third game of the 2017 season, Sunday climaxed in a well played 3rd place achievement for the team. Led by Patrick Furlong (CAPT) and supported by steadfast brand partners Macey & Sons – Art, Antiques and Auctions, Pegasus Agriculture, JetSolution, Aquila, Connexion D’Art and Genavieve.Co | PR Brand for Hong Kong.
“As the Hong Kong Polo Team, we are very proud to participate in this tournament, which gives us a unique opportunity to compete against the strongest teams at this level,” Patrick Furlong said. “I would like to thank my team mates Lynly Fong, Jonathan Gabler, Isabelle Larenaudie and Ali Reda, all of whom played really well. It was the first time for Ali to play for HKPT, but he adapted well to our classic polo game play. Lynly, who nursed an elbow injury, was replaced on Sunday by Jonothan Gabler, which gave us a very solid defense play. For HKPT it was a unique opportunity to play against the best teams in Singapore, whose players will be representing the country in the SEA Games in Malaysia. This is a true benchmark of where the team stands and how competitive we can be.”
“It was a thrilling match that saw our Hong Kong Polo Team shine at the SEA Games 2017 in Singapore”, said Dave Savage, President of Asia World Polo and of the Hong Kong Polo Team. “I am especially proud of our team’s hard fought third place victory competing against the best teams in the Asia region. We had outstanding support from 170 guests from Hong Kong and beyond, as well as our steadfast brand sponsors Option Group, Macey & Son – Art Antiques and Auctions, Pegasus Agriculture, JetSolution Aviation Group, Peroni and Genavieve.Co PR Brand for Hong Kong”.
The HK Polo Team is one of four teams to play one of the South East Asian (SEA) Games warm-up tournament at SPC. The SEA Games are one of the most important competitions in South East Asia, as a multi-sport event, akin to the Olympic Games of South East Asia. This year, the SEA Games have been hosted in Malaysia and for the first time in 10 years polo has made a comeback after it was last played in the SEA Games of Thailand in 2007.
As the first official tournament at Singapore Polo Club and after the spectacular event the previous week, when for the first time in Asia, the Sentebale Polo Cup was hosted at the club, featuring HRH Prince Harry of Wales and Nacho Figueras. The Sentebale Polo Cup is played every year in a different part of the world, raising funds for the Prince’s charity in Africa. Furlong had the privilege to play in this charity match, which for the first time in 43 years saw a member of England’s Royal Family playing in Singapore. Prince Harry did justice to his reputation as a strong rider and sportsman, winning the Cup in a fantastic match, even scoring two goals himself.
