Anabolic Steroid Ban

The effective date of the ban will be January 1, 2017.  The Equine Drugs &Medications Sub- Committee had suggested and the Board of Governors approved a 6-month grace period beginning January 1, 2017. Drug testing will continue as usual and findings for all drugs including anabolic steroids will be recorded. No conduct violations will be initiated for any discovery of the anabolic steroids in the tests until after July 1, 2017.

Since this is going out to the general equine population (not just polo) I recommend the following:

US Polo Association Bans Anabolic Steroids

The United States Polo Association (USPA) Board of Governors recently approved a ban on the use of anabolic steroids in horses playing in USPA Tournaments. The effective date of the ban will be January 1, 2017.  The USPA Equine Drugs &Medications Sub- Committee discussed the topic throughout the summer and presented the ban to the USPA Board of Governors. It was decided that there would be a 6-month grace period ending on July 1, 2017. Drug testing will continue as usual in USPA Tournaments and findings for all drugs including anabolic steroids will be recorded. No conduct violations will be initiated for any discovery of the anabolic steroids in the tests until after July 1, 2017.
